What Advertisers Are Saying
“My client advertises their land properties using several mediums — including display
advertising. They recently shared with me that they have had the best results with
the advertising they have done in the Classified Avenue Network for their properties.
With the increased circulation and additional papers, I am sure their success will
continue.”
Rosemary Klim, National Ad Placement Services
“My clients do very well in Classified Avenue with their advertising and continue
to book with frequency.”
Cindy Watkins, Gatehouse Media
Operating Guidelines for Advertisers
- The Classified open advertising rate is $1,330 for up to a 25-word classified ad.
Each additional word in the ad is $35.
- Text that qualifies as one word: Area code and telephone number; entire business
name; first, middle, and last name; entire street address, city, state/providence,
zip/postal code; entire e-mail address; entire website address.
- All ads must be prepaid either by check or credit card. If paying by check, please
allow time for processing as Classified Avenue will not submit your ad to our newspapers
until the check has cleared.
- All ads must be faxed to Classified Avenue no later than 5:00 PM eastern
time on the Wednesday prior to the Sunday run week.
- Frequency discounts are available. See the Discount Contract Rates table. All contracts
must be prepaid in full. Contracts not fulfilled will be short rated.
- All ads will be screened by the Classified Avenue Screening Committee and are subject
to refusal. The Screening Committee will make the final decision as to whether an
ad is acceptable.
- Please note that Classified Avenue cannot guarantee that our participating newspapers
will publish ads provided to them by Classified Avenue. Our newspapers reserve the
right not to run an ad if it is against their company policy or violates state laws.
Classified Avenue will not reimburse advertisers whose ads have been accepted into
the Classified Avenue network but have not been published by some of our participating
newspapers. Results to advertisers are not guaranteed. Classified Avenue newspapers
serve only as the carrier with no implied or written guarantees.
- Classified Avenue is only responsible for typographical ad copy errors made by its
staff prior to submission to participating newspapers. In the case of such errors,
Classified Avenue will run that same corrected ad for one additional week at no
charge to the advertiser.
- Tearsheets and/or Publishers’ Statements and/or affidavits of publication are not
available to advertisers. Classified Avenue collects tearsheets on a quarterly basis
in order to ensure that the ads are being published. Tearsheets are not available
for distribution.
- Because our newspapers have agreed to participate in Classified Avenue on a volunteer
basis, and to only work and communicate directly with the Classified Avenue staff,
we cannot provide you with the names and/or telephone numbers of our contacts.
Ad Acceptance/Rejection Guidelines
Sample 25-word ad:
Enjoy the beauty of a mountain Colorado resort property. Two-bedroom cabin located
on two acres of secluded land. Only $275,000. Contact Smith Realty, 123 Maple Dr.,
Denver, 800-555-5555.
- Classified Avenue will reject ads whose purpose is the solicitation of money, for
which no product or service changes hands.
- "Work at home" ads, such as stuffing envelopes, might be rejected. Ads inviting information
regarding "self-employment" are subject to screening, but might be accepted.
- Ads of a personal nature, such as those seeking "companionship," as well as those
of a sexual nature, will be rejected. However, ads for "nannies" upon screening
might be accepted.
- 1-800, 1-888, and 1-900 number ads that advertise legitimate products and services
will be accepted.
- All political ads must, as part of the ad, state "Paid Political Advertisement,"
as well as the name of the person or organization authorizing the ad.
- Employment ads must clearly state the position available, and the salary (if stated)
is to be clarified as to weekly, monthly, etc. Likewise, if a fee is required, the
ad must include the word "fee."
- Ads for palm readers, fortune-tellers, astrology, psychics and hypnotists might be
rejected.
- Ads selling information regarding government surplus, government real estate, government
jobs and government vehicles must state exactly that: "Selling information." Due
to individual publication and state policies, this type of ad might not be run by
all Publishing Newspapers or guaranteed the full circulation.
- "Bingo" ads will be rejected.
These are only guidelines. Classified Avenue reserves the right to develop additional rules and policies as circumstances dictate.
